What does "Inherent" flame retardant mean?
"Inherent" means that the flame-retardant properties are a fundamental part of the chemical structure of the fiber itself (such as Modacrylic or Trevira CS). Unlike "treated" fabrics, where a chemical coating is applied to the surface, inherent FR properties can never be washed out, worn away, or dry-cleaned out. The safety is permanent for the life of the fabric.
How does Inherent FR compare to "FR Treated" (Proban/Pyrovatex) fabrics?
Inherent FR: Permanent protection. The fabric is often softer, more breathable, and has a better "hand-feel." It is generally more expensive but offers a better long-term return on investment.FR Treated: Usually a topical chemical application on natural fibers like cotton. The protection can diminish over time with heavy laundering or abrasion.
