At 450gsm, this is a heavy-duty, woven, uncoated, polyester canvas that is extremely durable, textured and soft. Water and scruff–resistant, it is suitable for paper sublimation printing. Please note textiles widths will vary +/- 2% from batch to batch due to variances in finishing/processing.Is Heavy Poly Canvas waterproof? While the polyester fibers themselves are naturally water-resistant, "waterproofness" depends on the finish. Most of our heavy canvases feature a PU (Polyurethane) or PVC coating on the reverse side. This creates a total barrier against water, making it ideal for outdoor covers, gazebos, and heavy-duty backpacks. Without this coating, the tight weave will repel light splashes but eventually saturate. How does it compare to traditional cotton canvas? Heavy Poly Canvas offers several performance advantages over cotton:
Rot & Mildew Resistance: Polyester does not absorb moisture like cotton, making it far less likely to develop mold in damp environments.
UV Stability: It is more resistant to "sun-rotting" and fading, making it better for long-term outdoor use.
Weight-to-Strength Ratio: It is significantly stronger than a cotton canvas of the same weight. Can I print on Heavy Poly Canvas? Yes, it is one of the best materials for dye-sublimation printing. Because it is $100\%$ polyester, the ink fuses deep into the fibers, resulting in vibrant, permanent graphics that won't crack or peel. This makes it the industry standard for branded director's chairs, heavy-duty event banners, and custom-printed outdoor cushions.
