Smooth and soft, plain weave, 235gsm, polyester light blockout fabric. It has a white, uncoated face with a heat-applied back coating that is slightly more textured. This textile keeps bedrooms dark, reduces TV glare, blocks out sunlight and ensures full privacy. It is designed for paper sublimation printing. Please note textile widths will vary +/- 2% from batch to batch due to variances in finishing/processing.What exactly is blackout fabric? Blackout fabric is a specialized textile that features a hidden "blockout" layer—typically a thin layer of black acrylic or foam—sandwiched between the front and back of the fabric. This layer ensures that 100% of external light is prevented from passing through the material, regardless of how bright the sun is outside. Does blackout fabric also provide thermal insulation? Yes. Because of its multi-layered construction, blackout fabric acts as an excellent thermal barrier. In the winter, it helps trap heat inside the room; in the summer, it reflects solar radiation to keep interiors cool. This makes it a popular choice for reducing energy bills and improving comfort in bedrooms and offices. Is blackout fabric "noisy" or stiff? While older versions were often stiff and plastic-like, our modern Soft-Drape Blackout is flexible and quiet. It behaves much like standard curtain fabric, allowing for elegant pleats and folds while maintaining its light-blocking properties. It does not have the "crinkly" sound often associated with cheaper PVC-backed alternatives.
